Stylist and client with long hair extensions at Arvel Hair Miami

Hair extensions maintenance guide

Your extensions are an investment in your hair. Proper care at home will help keep them looking soft, blended, healthy, and beautiful between appointments.

Every extension application is different, so always follow any specific instructions given to you by your Arvel stylist. Use this guide as your everyday reference for caring for your extensions at home.

Beautiful extensions start in the salon. Keeping them beautiful happens at home.

Keeping your extensions beautiful is simple. Follow these five steps at home and your extensions will stay softer, smoother, and easier to maintain between appointments.

1. Brush Gently

Brush your extensions morning and night using an extension-safe brush.

Start at the ends and slowly work your way upward. Hold the hair near the attachment points with your other hand to avoid unnecessary pulling.

2. Wash Carefully

Brush your hair before showering.

Shampoo gently at the scalp and around the attachment points. Do not scrub, twist, or pile your hair on top of your head.

Apply conditioner from the mid-lengths to the ends, keeping heavy conditioner away from the attachment points.

3. Dry Completely

Gently squeeze excess water from your hair with a towel. Do not rub or twist.

Always make sure the attachment points are completely dry, especially before going to bed.

4. Protect From Heat

Always use heat protectant before blow-drying, curling, or straightening your hair.

Avoid placing hot tools directly onto the extension attachment points.

5. Protect Your Hair While Sleeping

Never sleep with wet extensions.

Before bed, brush your hair and place it in a loose braid or low ponytail to help prevent tangling and matting overnight.

Things NOT to do.

I would make this section visually bold because this is probably the part clients will remember most.

DON’T sleep with wet hair.

DON’T pull or brush aggressively through knots.

DON’T apply heavy oils, masks, or conditioner directly onto the attachment points.

DON’T place curling irons or flat irons directly onto the attachments.

DON’T leave chlorine or salt water sitting in your hair for long periods.

DON’T try to remove your extensions yourself.

DON’T skip your recommended maintenance appointments.

Swimming & Miami Lifestyle

You can still enjoy the pool, beach, workouts, and Miami lifestyle.

Before swimming, brush your hair and secure it in a braid. After swimming, rinse out chlorine or salt water and make sure your extensions are properly dried.
