Balayage/Highlights after care

Keeping your color beautiful is simple. Follow these five steps at home to help maintain brightness, shine, softness, and tone between appointments.

1. Wash Less Often

Try not to shampoo your hair every day.

Washing less often helps preserve your toner, gloss, and overall color.

When you do wash, use lukewarm water rather than very hot water.

2. Use Color-Safe Products

Use a professional shampoo and conditioner designed for color-treated hair.

Keep your hair hydrated with a moisturizing conditioner or mask, especially through the mid-lengths and ends.

If your stylist recommends a purple or toning shampoo, use it only as directed.

3. Keep Your Hair Hydrated

Lightened hair needs moisture.

Use a professional hair mask regularly to help keep your hair soft, smooth, and manageable.

Apply your mask mainly through the mid-lengths and ends.

4. Protect From Heat

Always use a heat protectant before blow-drying, curling, or straightening your hair.

Use only as much heat as necessary. Excessive heat can make highlighted hair feel dry and can cause your toner to fade faster.

5. Maintain Your Color

Balayage and highlights are designed to grow out beautifully, but your tone will naturally change over time.

Your stylist may recommend a gloss or toner appointment between major color services to refresh shine and keep your blonde looking polished.

Beautiful color should look effortless. Keeping it that way starts at home.

Things not to do.

DON’T wash your hair excessively.

DON’T use extremely hot water.

DON’T use purple shampoo every time you wash unless your stylist specifically recommends it.

DON’T overuse hot tools without heat protection.

DON’T use harsh clarifying shampoos regularly.

DON’T allow chlorine or salt water to sit in your hair for long periods.

DON’T wait until your hair feels extremely dry or your color is heavily faded before scheduling maintenance.

Pool, Beach & Miami Sun

Sun, chlorine, salt water, and heat can affect both the condition and tone of highlighted hair.

Before swimming, wet your hair with clean water and, when possible, apply a protective leave-in product.

After swimming, rinse your hair thoroughly and follow with your normal color-safe care routine.

If you spend a lot of time outdoors, UV-protective hair products can also help protect your color.
